“You can tell a lot about a community by the way they treat their dead.” On the morning of June 10th, 1692, one woman met the hangman’s noose. It was the point of no return in the Salem Witchcraft Hysteria. Her name was Bridget Bishop.

Previously accused in 1680, she was the only victim not executed in a group. Remembering her as a fellow human being is crucial to understanding the madness that ensued. Join us in person at the Salem Witch Trials Memorial on Charter Street on June 10th at 10 am for a commemoration of the 334th anniversary of the death of the first victim of the 1692 Salem Witchcraft Hysteria. The short remembrance will honor this wronged woman – who was also a domestic abuse survivor – and acknowledge all victims and survivors of abuse, prejudice, and ignorance – past and present. This will include 17th-century poems, floral tributes, and information about Bridget’s life.
