DESCRIPTION:Two and a half centuries of America are commemorated by guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan in GUITAR AMERICA 250\, an exploration of the United States’ musical history. From The Star-Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful to Paul Simon’s America and Eddie Van Halen’s 316\, Larget-Caplan journeys through the soundscapes of a diverse nation. The evening includes music and texts by abolitionists\, immigrants\, suffragettes\, revolutionaries and rockstars with spoken word provided by special guest and Salem resident\, poet Richard Hoffman. \nAdmission to this concert is free but advance reservations are recommended. Register here! \nABOUT THE ARTISTS \nA daring and trailblazing classical guitarist and composer\, Aaron Larget-Caplan searches for the life in music and music in life. He has performed over 1000 concerts across Europe\, Russia\, Taiwan\, and the US. He directs and curates the Spanish dance ensemble ¡Con Fuego!\, regularly performs chamber music\, and the performance and educational endeavor Now Musique. His 12 solo albums have earned over 13 million streams\, and he has several publications of John Cage\, Alan Hovhaness\, and contemporary composers. Born in Oklahoma\, raised in Colorado he makes his home in Boston where he is on faculty at the New England Conservatory. \nRichard Hoffman’s eleven books include the memoirs Half the House\, winner of the Boston Athenaeum Reader’s Award and Love & Fury\, a finalist for the New England Independent Booksellers Award. He has published five books of poetry\, Without Paradise; Gold Star Road\, winner of the Barrow Street Press Poetry Prize and the Sheila Motton Award from The New England Poetry Club; Emblem; Noon until Night\, winner of the 2018 Massachusetts Book Award\, People Once Real and most recently two volumes of his New & Selected Poems\, Each Child a Disappearance\, and Mundus et Infans: Selected Suites\, Sequences\, and Series. His other books include the story collection Interference and Other Stories\, and the 2023 essay collection Remembering the Alchemists. He is Emeritus Writer-in-Residence at Emerson College and the nonfiction editor of Solstice: A Magazine of Diverse Voices. \nThe Recital Hall is located on the ground floor of the Classroom Building\, 71 Loring Avenue (Nancy D. Harrington Campus). \nParking is available to concerts guests after 5 pm in the parking lot directly across the street.
